Joby Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

We are seeking a proactive, analytical, and mission-driven Government, Defense & Policy Analyst to support Joby Aviation’s strategic initiatives across government affairs, defense engagement, and policy development. This individual will play a key role in shaping Joby’s policy strategy, strengthening cross-team coordination, and providing high-quality research, analysis, and communications support.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with experience in government affairs, defense policy, or market analysis who thrives in fast-paced, cross-functional environments. The ideal candidate combines strong research and writing skills with an ability to synthesize complex information and drive impact across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Narrative

  • Support development of communications and social media strategies for the policy team.

  • Explore creator and influencer partnership strategies to generate authentic, positive content that highlights Joby’s leadership in advanced air mobility.

  • Draft and refine concise communication materials (e.g., one-pagers, talking points, and briefings) for internal and external audiences.

Policy & Legislative Support

  • Monitor and summarize legislative and regulatory developments, including congressional hearings, agency actions, and relevant policy announcements.

  • Support the policy team’s broader goal of shaping and analyzing Joby’s public perception through data-informed messaging and engagement strategies.

  • Provide direct assistance on targeted initiatives, such as coordinating operational clearances or supporting government relations activities.

Market & Investor Analysis

  • Track investor, media, and public sentiment to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.

  • Conduct competitor and industry research to evaluate strategic positioning, partnerships, and emerging market dynamics.

  • Contribute to analyses that clarify Joby’s strategic advantages—such as defense partnerships that strengthen commercial growth.

  • Identify opportunities in adjacent markets, such as medical, humanitarian, and public service applications of VTOL technology.

Defense, Business Development & Regulatory Support

  • Research and analyze geopolitical developments and defense-related programs relevant to Joby’s operations.

  • Support business development and defense teams with research, presentation materials, and data analysis.

  • Assist in drafting regulatory comments and coordinating engagement with industry organizations (e.g., AFTRCC) on spectrum and aviation policy issues.

  • Support legal and financial coordination related to policy and defense activities.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Maintain active communication across policy, defense, business development, and investor relations teams to ensure alignment.
  • Facilitate collaboration and information flow across departments for cohesive strategy execution.
  • Contribute flexibly wherever needed, including supporting industry event participation or special initiatives

Required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, international relations, finance, economics, communications, or a related field.

  • 1-3 years of experience in government affairs, defense policy, market analysis, or related disciplines (experience in aerospace or technology sectors a plus).

  • Strong research and writing skills with the ability to synthesize complex information for diverse audiences.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Familiarity with legislative, regulatory, and defense processes.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort working with cross-functional teams.

  • Self-starter with intellectual curiosity and passion for aerospace innovation.
