About the Language Tooling team:
The Language Tooling team at Liftoff boosts the productivity of all Accelerate engineers by providing excellent developer tools and guidelines for Python and Clojure. This is a senior role that would be working autonmously building tools, improving shared libraries, adopting open-source solutions, establishing best practices, and making repo-wide code improvements.
Location:
This role is eligible to work out of any of our below North America office locations or is eligible for full-time remote work in one of our entities.
US office locations: Redwood City (HQ), Los Angeles, New York City
Additionally, Liftoff recently announced approved North American locations from which some employees may request to work from any city and county: California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington in the US, and Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Independently work with stakeholders across various engineering teams to build and improve language tools to address their needs.
- Build high quality tooling to support Clojure and Python development (for example, tooling for building consistent, reproducible software packages, or for enforcing language standards through linters in CI).
- Advocate for best practices for writing high-quality Clojure and Python code. Develop guidelines, review code, and provide feedback to ensure that teams adhere to these standards.
- Improve shared libraries, adopt open-source tools (where applicable), and make repo-wide code improvements.
Requirements:
- 12+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on developer tools and productivity.
- Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science or related field
- Proficiency in Clojure or Python (with preference for Clojure), with extensive experience in their respective frameworks and libraries.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Liftoff offers all employees a full compensation package that includes equity and health/vision/dental benefits associated with your country of residence. Base compensation will vary based on candidate location and experience. The following are our base salary ranges for this role:
SF Bay Area, NYC, Los Angeles/Orange County: $220,000 - 275,000
Seattle/Olympia, Austin, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Boston: $200,000 - 255,000
All other cities and towns in our approved states: $190,000 - 235,000
Preferred location for this position is Pacific timezone.

Liftoff's compensation strategy includes competitive market rate along with equity and benefits and perks that will give our employees what they need to do their best work. In order to ensure teams are compensated fairly for the work performed, we map out specific levels and take into consideration the cost of labor within each location. Liftoff provides employees a total compensation package of competitive market salaries, equity, health and wellness stipends, medical benefits associated with your country of residence. The base compensation will vary based on location, experience as well as level.
