This role will be part of the Traffic Management Team focused on Vungle Exchange, which is dedicated to optimizing the digital advertising landscape, ensuring the strategic allocation and efficient flow of ad traffic across our platform. We aim to enhance the user experience for both publishers and advertisers through the use of advanced traffic throttling, machine learning models, and cutting-edge fraud detection strategies. This team ensures the precision and effectiveness of ad delivery, contributing to Liftoff's mission of scaling revenue growth for mobile businesses.

Responsibilities:

  • Own both the ML models and the underlying software tooling and infrastructure. Our ML Engineer role combines the classic "ML Scientist" and "Data Engineer" role at other companies.
  • Have a closed feedback loop from hypothesis generation to live AB testing, with no cross-team friction and sub-day iteration cycles.
  • Take on unique modeling challenges not covered in the scientific literature, like extreme positive sample sparsity and labeling delay.
  • Work with modeling techniques at the state-of-the-art of probability prediction, as well as a multitude of other ML areas.
  • Become an expert in Python, Go, and the many other cutting-edge open source technologies that maximize our development velocity.
  • Join a nimble, consistently excellent, and experienced engineering team (former Google/LI/Ooyala/etc).

Requirements:

  • Strong experience in Python
  • Very strong coding ability (experience in Go, C, C++, or Rust is a plus).
  • 8+ yrs of total software engineering/relevant experience, with at least 4+ of those years having industry experience applying Machine Learning to large scale problems in Recommendation, Advertising, or Search
    • We are especially interested in those with even more experience: 10+ years of software engineering experience and 5+ yrs of Machine Learning experience
  • Strong core CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, architecting systems).
  • A passion for quality and excellence, and the ability to temper it when necessary to ship.
  • Sets ego aside in pursuit of finding the best solution, no matter where it comes from.
  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science or Mathematics. PhD a big plus.
  • Fluent Mandarin and English language ability

Tech Stack Overview:

  • Programming Language: Go (Golang)/Python.
  • Distributed middleware systems: Kafka/Redis/RocksDB/MongoDB/S3.
  • ML: Pandas/Numpy/Scipy/Sklearn/Spark/Pytorch/Tensorflow.
  • Monitoring and Visualization: Grafana/Prometheus/Loki.
  • Additional Tools: Docker/Kubernetes/AWS/Git/ArgoCD.

Liftoff's compensation strategy includes competitive market rate along with equity and benefits and perks that will give our employees what they need to do their best work. In order to ensure teams are compensated fairly for the work performed, we map out specific levels and take into consideration the cost of labor within each location.

The preferred location for this role is Beijing.

The TCC (Total Cash Compensation) for this role is RMB 500,000 - 1,225,000 annually.
