Match Group, through its portfolio companies, is a leading provider of dating services available globally, all aimed at helping our users find meaningful connections.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director & Senior Counsel, EMEA on our Legal team to provide expert legal partnership and counsel to Match Group’s EMEA-based brands, as well as support Match Group’s US-based brands as they enter the EMEA market.
This hybrid role, based out of Paris or Dublin, requires 2 days in office per week and reports directly to the SVP, Associate General Counsel for Match Group.
How you'll make an impact:
Leadership and Team Management
- You will lead and mentor a small team of EMEA-based attorneys and/or legal staff who provide generalist advice and transactional counsel to the EMEA-based and expanding brand businesses.
- You will provide day-to-day counsel to EMEA-based brand executive teams and manage the output of the services/support within the Legal function in support of these brand business goals.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- You will collaborate with US legal team members and other teams within the Legal Department (Tinder Legal, Hinge Legal, APAC Legal, Evergreen & Emerging Legal, Litigation, Intellectual Property, Compliance, Privacy, Corporate Governance) as well as with broader Match Group cross-functional teams (Tax, Finance, Government Relations, Trust & Safety, Communications, Cybersecurity, etc.) to provide seamless and comprehensive support to brands and to support our compliance with new and evolving international regulations, such as the Digital Services Act, and in response to inquiries from EMEA regulators.
Brand and Business Support
- You will lead the legal review of new anqtive platform features, spotting issues and organizing all relevant stakeholders and seeking input and consensus around recommendations to the business team.
- You will lead Legal support to EMEA-based teams regarding compliance with international, federal and state laws and regulations relevant to consumer-facing technology services, including data protection, privacy, intellectual property and consumer protection laws.
Strategic Legal Counsel
- You will develop a deep understanding of various brands’ technology and tech stacks and provide practical and innovative counsel to support high impact and timely platform launches.
- You will identify and analyze legal issues, draft and negotiate contracts and agreements, present clear recommendations to business leaders and legal colleagues, and ensure brand platform, marketing, and overall legal compliance.
Process Improvement and Training
- You will advise and manage workflow process improvement, playbook development, business team member training, and template use to address the evolving needs of a growing organization.
Market Expansion and M&A Support
- You will provide strategic guidance and support to Match Group US-based brands that are looking to enter and/or maintain a presence in the EMEA market.
- You will play a supporting role for future potential brand M&A as to targets with potential EMEA operations, including due diligence and post-acquisition integration.

We could be a match if:

  • You have a law degree from a top accredited law school and license (or in-house eligibility) to practice law and at least 6 years experience, including both top national law firm and in-house legal department experience.
  • You have substantial and direct experience providing technology counseling on complex products to stakeholders, including non-lawyers, and ideally in B2C digital industries such as gaming, music, mobile, video, online marketplaces and/or social media.
  • You have excellent business communication and analytical skills, as well as an impeccable attention to detail and strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • You possess a strong desire to learn the business, associated technologies, and new areas of law and have a natural ease in working cross-functionally as a practical-minded legal partner to business teams.
  • You are an independent self-starter, and are comfortable making decisions and providing advice in an ever-changing and fast-paced environment.
  • You have a positive attitude and professional ease in working collaboratively with Legal and non-Legal team members.
