San Francisco, CA, USA
Posted on Thursday, May 30, 2024
Match Group is a leading provider of dating products across the globe. Our portfolio includes Tinder, Match, Hinge, PlentyOfFish, The League, and others, each designed to spark meaningful connections for singles worldwide.
Safety by Design refers to product development methods that explicitly integrate consideration of user safety, agency, and privacy into the software design and implementation process. Match Group has adopted an industry-leading approach to safety by design across its portfolio of apps and services, working proactively to identify potential user risks associated with new features, and identifying win-win solutions to manage those risks at scale.
This position will report to the VP - Trust & Safety. Our Trust & Safety teams are based in San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles, but we are open to considering a remote office for highly qualified candidates. This position will require domestic and international travel.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Lead a team of product specialists responsible for implementing safety by design practices across the Match Group portfolio by setting strategic priorities, OKRs, deadlines, and work assignments for your team
  • Develop repeatable, scalable methodologies and procedures for conducting new feature risk assessments and evaluating the likelihood and severity of possible risks to user safety, privacy, and autonomy
  • Build strong partnerships with product managers and owners across the Match Group portfolio to stay informed about new feature developments, communicate trust and safety advice, and collaborate to identify win-win solutions to identified SBD risks
  • Oversee and manage tooling readiness for new feature launches, including ensuring that central T&S operations teams have the necessary tools to support their work before new features are launched (and that potential tooling deficiencies are appropriately identified, tracked, and escalated)
  • Socialize a comprehensive, portfolio-wide new feature launch tracker for major feature launches to ensure executive-level visibility into key product developments and associated risks
  • Maintain a comprehensive internal repository and taxonomy of product safety features implemented by MG brands to facilitate portfolio-wide sharing of best practices
  • Implement and report on industry-wide best practices and frameworks for evaluating product safety (e.g. the Digital Trust & Safety Partnership Safer assessment) across the MG portfolio
  • Serve as an internal champion for safety by design approaches across Match Group, including by conducting training sessions, circulating resources and best practices, and partnering with SBD “champions” at the brand level
  • Help represent Match Group on product safety matters with external stakeholders, including with industry groups, at conferences, and (as appropriate) with regulators and press

We could be a match if:

  • You have 7+ years of experience working on trust and safety issues (or related fields, such as privacy and cybersecurity), including 2+ years as a people manager
  • You’re passionate about and experienced with tech safety, authenticity, and integrity issues, and love to think creatively about how to anticipate and prevent harmful misuse of technology
  • You’re familiar with safety-by-design, privacy-by-design, and/or security-by-design methodologies, and have real-world experience integrating these approaches into product development
  • You’re a strong communicator and collaborator, and know how to influence others and drive strategy without explicit organizational authority
  • You have excellent problem solving, analytical, and presentation skills, with an exceptional ability to multitask and prioritize in a highly dynamic environment
  • You are a true team player with deep empathy for user experience and a continuous growth mindset
