ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for a collaborative and detail-oriented candidate interested in the intersection of product and retail/fashion to join our team as a Staff Accountant. The ideal candidate has 1-2 years of experience at a large accounting firm and / or in a similar role at a high-growth startup. As a Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for helping us make critical financial decisions by collecting, tracking, and correcting the company's finances. This person will serve as a bridge between finance and departmental functions at Ghost. Ghost is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, where this position is located.
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring 100% accuracy of accounting and financial data by collaborating with sales, merchandising, and product teams.
- Taking the reins of the full accounts payable cycle, managing new vendors, invoices, and payables with precision.
- Overseeing accounts receivable and skillfully managing collections from buyers.
- Supporting month, quarter, and year-end closes by preparing journal entries, conducting account reconciliations, and ensuring GAAP compliance.
- Spearheading innovative and efficient methods for expediting end-of-month processing.
- Maintaining and recording schedules related to Prepaids, Accrued Expenses, COGS, Depreciation, and more.
- Collaborating with merchandise and sales teams to ensure accurate reporting of managed and consignment inventory, along with all transaction data.
- Acting as the finance team's voice, managing expenses, keeping leadership informed, and fostering a healthy spend culture for future endeavors.
- Establishing and managing seller compliance processes, including sales tax and resale license tracking from our retail clients.
- Responding to information requests, reviewing financial statements, and providing support during audits.
- Preparing special financial reports, showcasing your keen analysis of account information and trends when requested by senior managers.
Qualifications::
- You bring 1-2 years of relevant experience, ideally from a large accounting firm or a prior startup.
- Experience with Quickbooks Online or NetSuite is a major plus.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting is essential.
- Your written and verbal communication skills are second to none.
- Your keen eye for detail and knack for numbers make you a mathematical genius.
- A self-starter, you excel at multitasking, prioritizing, and executing tasks without micro-management, all while proactively seeking assistance when needed.
- You are comfortable with a 5-day in-office workweek (based in Los Angeles).
