Brace Health
About the job
About Brace Health
Brace Health is on a mission to ensure every patient gets covered for the care they need and every doctor gets paid for the work they do.
Independent healthcare practices deliver better outcomes, more personalized care, and lower costs to patients, but they're disappearing, squeezed by payers and buried in administrative complexity. We're building vertically integrated technology systems that automate healthcare payments end-to-end, so the practices that serve their communities best can survive and thrive.
We're one of the fastest growing companies in healthcare, now serving thousands of patients and processing millions of dollars of claims. We’ve raised a seed round from Bessemer Venture Partners (Anthropic, Shopify, Twilio) and top seed investors. This is an opportunity to join an exceptional founding team in an early role with a major equity stake.
The Role
We're looking for exceptional software engineers to architect and ship foundational systems.
You’ll own entire product areas and be expected to play a true full-stack role, with the ability to go from customer need to end-state product. You’ll work directly with the CTO at the edge of what's possible with LLMs and agentic systems applied to a hard domain. You'll contribute to technical strategy, make real architectural decisions, and write vast amounts of production code with AI first developer workflows.
Most importantly, the technology you build will have real impact on real people - clinics staying open, clinicians getting paid, patients getting care.
This role is based in Boston, MA (or relocation required).
What You'll Do
-
Build and ship across a full stack - from core backend services to the interfaces billing partners, clinic operators, and patients use every day
-
Architect and own complex integrations with payers, clearinghouses, and EHR systems
-
Write Rust for high-performance, correctness-critical financial infrastructure; React/Remix for intuitive operational interfaces; Python for AI/ML pipelines
-
Work across distributed systems, workflow automation, and data infrastructure in a regulated environment
-
Adopt emerging AI/ML technologies - we use Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, and open-source models across our stack
-
Help establish the engineering culture and technical foundation as one of our first engineers
What You'll Bring
Requirements
-
2-8 years of engineering experience at a high-performing startup, big tech company, or as a founder. We care more about slope than y-intercept.
-
AI first dev workflow
-
Actively building something on the side
-
Full-stack capability, leaning toward backend - not a specialist in just mobile or web
-
Based in Boston or willing to relocate
What we look for
-
High agency - you see what needs to happen and make it happen; you don't wait to be unblocked
-
High ownership - you care deeply about the quality and impact of what you ship
-
Good judgment - you know what you know and what you don't; you make sound tradeoffs
-
Clear communication - you can drive a design review and explain a decision to a non-engineer
-
Product-mindedness - you think about the customer, not just the code
-
Strong CS fundamentals - data structures, algorithms, systems design
-
Architecture sense - ability to compose and evolve systems without rewriting them from scratch
Why Brace Health
-
Mission that matters. Healthcare is the largest, most important market in the world and it's broken for both patients and clinicians.
-
Real traction. Seed company processing millions of dollars of healthcare claims across thousands of patients annually, with a several month customer waitlist.
-
Elite team. Our founders come from Bain, YC, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Harvard. You'll work alongside people who've built large systems before and are building another.
-
Early equity. Major equity stake. You're helping build one of the next generation of AI healthcare companies from the ground up.
-
AI-native. We use AI across engineering, billing operations, and product. You'll work with the cutting edge LLMs and agentic tools applied to a genuinely hard domain.
-
Joy. We work hard, laugh often, and genuinely like spending time together.
