Design At Alloy

Alloy’s mission is to help financial companies deploy safe and seamless customer experiences.

Alloy reduces friction for end-users by helping them onboard customers with fewer hoops, keeping their accounts safe with ongoing transaction monitoring, and delivering credit decisions faster. We envision a more dynamic financial industry where the underbanked find more access to the financial products they need.

Design sits at the center of that mission. The complexity of compliance rules and the ever-evolving sophistication of fraudsters create a massive opportunity for Alloy to provide a single API and a powerful visual workflow builder that reduce risk and help fintechs and banks get to market faster. We provide policy owners, compliance officers, fraud investigators, and developers with the tools and data they need to spend more time building best in class products for their customers.

About The Role

We think of a Design Engineer as “a designer that codes”.

At our current scale you’ll be able to look across the entire product surface from our dashboard to our consumer-facing SDK and help establish the patterns within our design system that makes us a category leader in banking infrastructure. This role is a great opportunity for you if you are a design engineer or have ever described yourself as a: creative technologist, UX engineer, design system engineer, product designer that codes, UI engineer, design technologist, or a design-oriented software engineer.

We consider design engineering to be at the center of the product development cycle, serving as a bridge between product, design, engineering, and the end user. It is a critical function that ensures we deliver experiences faithful to our designs, push the boundaries of what is possible, and iterate rapidly.

Our ultimate goal is to provide a delightful experience for our full gamut of users from internal engineering teams consuming our design system, technical account managers power-using our dashboard, client engineers implementing an Alloy solution, client policy makers and agents using Alloy in their day-to-day work, and our clients’ end customers interacting with our SDK.

Own our design system

  • You will help prioritize the most impactful areas of focus within the design system and contribute to our broader frontend strategy.
  • You will collaborate with product designers to articulate design system principles and create world-class documentation, and increase the adoption of best practices across our full stack engineering teams.
  • You will work with frontend engineers to contemplate the optimal component API and composition from both the designer and developer perspective.
  • You will help mitigate design debt by whatever means necessary—update interfaces with new components, contribute to developer tooling and linters, or slip easter eggs into our CI pipeline to discourage unwanted local overrides.
  • You will leverage the design system to create the most accessible and delightful dashboard possible via browser performance optimization, responsive layouts, a11y best practices, and subtle animations/micro-interactions.

Improve our client developer experience

  • You will craft consumer-facing experiences within Alloy’s embeddable SDK that remove friction from the fintech user experience.
  • You will build sample implementations that offer client engineering teams a playground during the sales and integration process.
  • You will create experiences to help our sales team demonstrate the power of Alloy’s platform.

Imagine the future of Alloy

  • You will help take brand new initiatives from 0 to 1, seeding your own ideas or prototyping with a designer to bring radical new concepts to life.
  • You will use your preferred toolkit to articulate and prototype complex interactions and translate those into production-ready code.
  • You will help create leverage within our product organization by evangelizing adoption of frontend best practices, promoting broad component library usage, developing Figma plugins, linting tools, or CLI helpers, and generally improving our internal developer experience.
  • You will help tighten the feedback loop between product, design, and engineering by bridging any technical divide between functions, acting as a Rosetta stone of sorts.

About You

  • Advanced knowledge of Javascript/Typescript (React), modern HTML and CSS.
  • 5 or more years of relevant design and web front-end development or creative technology experience at a tech-forward, product-driven company.
  • Experience designing and building design systems that power complex dashboards including (but not limited to) data visualizations, information-heavy interfaces, or sensitive/high-risk data.
  • A strong understanding of the formal elements of design beyond the web including typography, layout, balance, proportion, motion etc.

We Would Love To See

  • An online portfolio and links to example projects/libraries you’ve built.
  • Your resume and/or LinkedIn profile.
  • A short summary of a particularly successful project, focusing on how you solved an existing problem.
  • Why you’re interested in Alloy.
